Let’s pray for Ofori Amponsah – Azigiza Jnr

Veteran DJ now turned pastor Victor Kpakpo Addo, known in public life as Rev. Azigiza Jnr, has urged Ghanaians to pray for Ofori Amponsah.

While many have criticized the highlife musician’s decision to cross carpet from preaching the word of God to doing secular music again, Rev. Azigiza Jnr says society should not be quick to judge him.

Ofori Amponsah made headlines when he left secular music to establish his own church, Family of Faith and Love in 2012.

About five years of doing God’s work, he made a U-turn back to secular music alleging that he was never ordained as a pastor, which got him a lot of backlashes.

But, Rev. Azigiza Jnr, who shocked Ghanaians when he gave his life to Christ in 1998 and has remained consistent with doing the work of God, has sought to explain what might have happened.

Asked why Ofori Amponsah could not stay true to doing God’s work, the former DJ told Doreen Andoh in an interview on Cosmopolitan Mix on Joy FM Friday said it is not easy to be in God’s kingdom.

“Unfortunately, I wouldn’t be able to suggest what went wrong with our brother Ofori Amponsah but let me let you know that coming from that kingdom (secular music) into this kingdom (God’s work) is not an easy thing.

"If you are not careful, poverty will make you go back because on the secular side somebody will call you to come for shows and give you money," he added.
According to him, the best that Ghanaians “can do for Ofori Amponsah is to pray for him.”

Recalling his calling to do the work of God, the former host of the Joy Beach Jam on Joy FM said, “I took a decision in 1998 that I was going to serve the Lord.”

“Some thought it was just a nine-day wonder. For three years I only read the bible and went to Achimota forest to pray. I told people I had become born again when I was sure,” he said.

Rev. Azigiza Jnr was quick to advise entertainment personalities who turn to do God’s work not to rush to the pulpit to the preach the word.

“If you’ve been in show business and you come into the Kingdom of God, do yourself a favour, don’t run straight to the pulpit, sit back, let somebody take off the junk off your life.

"This is because if you move from the stage to the pulpit, you will come with a show business mentality and there [Kingdom of God], it’s not about you, it’s about God. But in show business, it’s about you, so if you are not careful, you will get things wrong, he observed.
